Denis Shapovalov, born in Tel Aviv, April 15, 1999, is a Canadian tennis player of Israeli birth and Russian-Ukrainian origin.

In his career he has won an ATP title, as well as the ATP Cup and the Davis Cup in 2022 with the Canadian team. in Grand Slam tournaments he boasts the semifinal at Wimbledon 2021 as his best result. His best ATP ranking is 10th place reached for the first time on 21 September 2020.

He prefers to play on grass, he is left-handed and particularly powerful, his best shots are the smash, the serve, which already exceeded 200 km/h when he was 17, and above all the backhand, performed with one hand with a grip and a foot position that imparts particular power to the ball. Thanks to his responsiveness, he is often able to surprise his opponent with powerful backhands on return of serve. Under the guidance of Mikhail Youzhny he also honed his backhand slice.

From a very young age he has shown great balance in movements and good elasticity of the joints, which allow him to recover exceptionally. He has a good flying game and a very delicate touch.

His physiotherapist Stefano De Pirro explained: "He doesn't seem to suffer a particular inclination to injuries and this allows us to work with intensity; however there are still many details that need to be pushed to bring him to maximum form."

Despite his young age and in spite of his appearances, the Canadian tennis player is particularly attentive to physical preparation.

In 2019, in Stockholm, he did not lose any set in the whole tournament, eliminating Alexei Popyrin, Cedrik-Marcel Stebe in order and accessing his first ATP final with the success in the semifinals over Yuichi Sugita. On 20 October he prevailed over Filip Krajinovic with a double 6-4 and won the first ATP title of his career.

In January 2022 he won the ATP Cup in Sydney with Canada, winning 5 of the 7 matches played between singles and doubles and in the final won 2-0 against Spain he prevailed over Pablo Carreno Busta.
