Monmouth University men's tennis gets four honors from CAA

The Monmouth University men's tennis team gets four honors from CAA. In fact, four student-athletes have been recognized by the Colonial Athletic Association for their performances after conference championships. Niels Van Noord was named Second Team All-CAA in Singles, the duo of Gabriel Busato and Victor Castro were awarded Second Team All-CAA honors in Doubles, and Dmitry Bezborodov was named Third Team All-CAA in Singles.

The awards come after Monmouth posted an 18-7 overall record and raced to the semifinals of the CAA Tournament. The Hawks upset No. 2 seed William & Mary in the quarterfinals with a convincing 4-0 victory after a win over No.

10 Hampton in the first round. The season was Monmouth's third straight year with a hitting percentage over . 700. Van Noord earns his second career all-conference nod after going 13-12 in singles as a fifth-year senior. He was named the CAA Men's Tennis Player of the Week on February 21 after a 2-0 singles week with wins over FDU and Queens.

Van Noord played No. 1 singles the entire season to lead the Monmouth team. Bezborodov gets his second career all-league citation after going 15-11 in singles, mostly ranked second in Monmouth's lineup. At one point in the spring, Bezborodov put together a five-game hitting streak against opponents from Hampton, Bryant, Hofstra, St.

John's, and NJIT. Busato and Castro were standouts in doubles, going 13-0 on the season as a duo. Busato finished his season at 17-2 in doubles, while Castro finished with a mark of 17-3 on the year. The pair were recognized as the CAA Doubles Team of the Week on April 18 after winning three-pointers against Morgan State, NJIT and St.

John's. Busato claims his second career all-conference award in doubles, while Castro collects his third career doubles honor.

Monmouth's athletic teams are known as the Hawks. The Hawks compete as members of the Colonial Athletic Association. The school had competed as a Division I (NCAA) school in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference from 2013 to 2023.
