Emma Raducanu won't be helping Great Britain when the British team takes on Sweden in the upcoming Billie Jean King Cup tie. On Friday, British Billie Jean King Cup team captain Anne Keothavong announced the team that would be taking on Sweden in a tie for the spot in the 2024 qualifiers.
Raducanu, the 2021 US Open champion, was nowhere to be found on the list. Instead, Great Britain will be represented by Katie Boulter, Jodie Burrage, Harriet Dart and Heather Watson. Raducanu, who had surgeries on both wrists and her right ankle in May, hasn't played since then.
Meanwhile, Great Britain's Billie Jean King Cup tie against Sweden is scheduled to take place between November 11-12.
Raducanu out of Great Britain's upcoming Billie Jean King Cup tie
British team may be without Raducanu but team captain Keothavong insists she is thrilled about the player lineup she has at her disposal.
"I’m delighted that all our strongest ranked players have made themselves available for the Billie Jean King Cup tie versus Sweden next month. We are very excited to have yet another opportunity to play in front of a home crowd, especially at the Copper Box Arena where the fans were so instrumental in helping get us over the line when we last played there a few years ago.
Finally, being able to captain this team is always a huge privilege and to bring live tennis back to where I grew up, means a great deal to me on a personal level," Keothavong said in a statement. Meanwhile, Raducanu is likely targeting to return at the start of the 2024 season.
After struggling with injuries and physical setbacks for quite some time, Raducanu decided to surgically address her issues in May. When Raducanu returns, she will be hoping to stay healthy for a longer period and do some great things.
