Player history

Beatriz Haddad Maia was born in São Paulo on May 30, 1996.

During her career she won two WTA titles, and she reached the final of the Canadian WTA 1000, in 2022. In doubles, however, she won the Bogota tournament twice and she went all the way to the final of the 2022 Australian Open and WTA 1000 in Guadajalara in 2022, and the WTA 1000 in Indian Wells in 2023. Her best rankings are 12th in singles, reached on February 13, 2023, while in doubles, 12th on January 9, 2023.

She is the second best Brazilian tennis player ever to have won a WTA title on grass in the Open Era: before her only Maria Bueno in 1968.

In July 2019 she was provisionally suspended after an anti-doping control in which she tested positive for some anabolic steroids (SARM S-22 and SARM LGD-4033), carried out during the Bol tournament held in June. Beatriz Haddad Maia then announced the appeal against the measure.

On 13 February 2020, she was handed a 10-month total ban, however allowing her to return to action at the end of May. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Haddad Maia managed to return to the field only in September, in the Portuguese ITF of Montemor-o-Novo, where she managed to win the title by beating Jodie Burrage (6-1 6-4). In the same month, the Brazilian achieved two more ITF titles (always in Portugal) and a final. In October, she wins the 4th ITF of the season in Funchal, beating Francisca Jorge in the last act. Thanks to the excellent results at the ITF level, Beatriz closes the year at No. 358 in the world.

In 2022 she won two tournaments on grass-courts, Nottingham and Birmingham, respectively against Alison Riske and against Zhang Shuai. Also in 2022, she reached the doubles final of the 2022 Australian Open, with Anna Danilina, losing to Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova in the final.

In 2023 she reaches the 14th place of the WTA ranking.
