Rory McIlroy's perspective on players joining LIV Golf has undergone a notable change in the last year. Previously, McIlroy was a strong supporter of the PGA Tour and criticized players who left the tour to join the Arabian Super League.

Now, however, his approach is different, and he asks for "leniency" for those who wish to return to the PGA Tour after their time at LIV.

In a press conference at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am, McIlroy expressed his opinion that life is about making decisions and that there should be no penalties for players who wish to return to the PGA Tour.

He argued that punishing people wouldn't be fair and that it would be better for golf if everyone was together and moving forward together. When asked about his change of heart, McIlroy explained that he had come to the conclusion that having a weakened PGA Tour and a weakened LIV Tour was not beneficial to either party.

He now believes it would be better for golf if everyone worked together rather than punishing players who took different paths. McIlroy also mentioned that he had spoken with Tyrrell Hatton, one of the latest players to join LIV Golf, and that he respected individual players' decisions about their future in professional golf.

Regarding negotiations between the PGA Tour, DP World Tour and LIV Golf, McIlroy urged that they be resolved quickly as he believes an agreement is crucial to the future of men's professional golf. In short, Rory McIlroy has changed his perspective and now advocates unity and collaboration instead of sanctions for players who joined LIV Golf.
