Maria Camila Osorio Serrano and Ann Li will play each other for a chance to win the maiden edition of the Tenerife Ladies Open on Sunday. The Colombian and the American came through their respective semi-finals against Camila Giorgi and Alize Cornet on Saturday.
In the first semi, the 21-year-old Li dominated Cornet to win 6-2, 6-1 in an hour and 23 minutes. The younger player hit 30 winners, three times as many as the Frenchwoman’s 10 and had 24 unforced errors for the match.
Li won 63% of her first-serve points to Cornet’s 54%. She also won 61% of her second-serve points to Cornet’s 30%. Li was broken once – in the second set – but went on to convert five break points on Cornet’s serve to keep herself comfortably ahead in the match.
On-court, after her victory, Li said, “Cornet and I have] played twice before, and they’ve always been battles. I knew I had to be aggressive from the start to the finish. She always gets to a lot of balls, so it’s about being patient as well.
That made the difference today. It’s been an interesting year, but I think I’ve gotten stronger mentally, physically, and overall, my game, so I’m excited to play tomorrow. Hopefully, I can bring my best performance tomorrow”.

Meanwhile, in her semi-final against the fourth-seeded Giorgi, Osorio Serrano clinched a 6-4, 7-5 win after an hour and 34 minutes of play. The Italian led by a break across both sets and even had a chance to serve the second set out.
However, her teenaged opponent thwarted her on all occasions, before grabbing victory in straight sets. Talking about the match, after her win, Osorio Serrano noted, “The match was really tough, so intense. I’ve never run that much before in my life, I think!
I’m super happy with my win today. At the beginning, she was serving so good, everything was first serve, and it was tough for me to return. But somehow, I found the rhythm, and I started doing better and better”.
Both for Maria Camila Osorio Serrano and Ann Li, the Tenerife Ladies Open final’s the second of their careers and of this season. But where Osorio Serrano’s looking to win the second title of her career (after having won in Bogota), Li’s looking to win her first.
