Osorio made good of six of the 16 break points that came her way on the Spaniard’s serve while losing her own serve four times across the match. Osorio won nearly 58% of her first-serve points to Parrizas Diaz’s 44% and 38% of her second-serve points to her opponent’s 58%.

The second semi-final featuring Fernandez and Beatriz Haddad Maia was relatively more one-sided as the left-hander clinched a 6-1, 6-4 win in an hour and 12 minutes.

Fernandez, who’s seeking to defend her title this week in Mexico, saved the only break point she faced in the second set while converting three of the four break points on Haddad Maia’s serve in the match. For the match, both players won a high margin of points off their first serves – Fernandez won 81.6% while the Brazilian won 81.8%.

However, the difference between the two came down to the points each won off their second serves – Fernandez won 54% while her opponent struggled, winning only 35% points. Speaking after her win, Fernandez said, “I just enjoy playing tennis in front of fans who love the sport as much as I do.

They cheer me on, they cheer my opponents on, in tough moments the energy on court is so positive. I can't complain at all when I'm in Mexico. My time here has always been amazing, I've always had fun, I have fond memories. I can't wait to play more matches here in Mexico, hopefully over the next couple of years”.

Both Camila Osorio and Leylah Fernandez are looking to win the second title of their career at the Monterrey Open. This will also be the first time the two will be playing against each other on the WTA tour after having established a rivalry in the junior circuit.
