Brenda Fruhvirtova: Me and Linda never tried to copy Serena, Venus Williams

Czech wunderkind Brenda Fruhvirtova admits she and her sister Linda grew up watching Serena and Venus Williams a lot but noted that they never tried to copy the Williams sisters. Brenda, 15, and 17-year-old Linda are one of the most promising and talented young players on the WTA Tour.

Just like the Williams sisters, the Fruhvirtova sisters started making notable results before turning 18. "Of course the Williams sisters are probably the greatest of all time but we never tried to like, copy anyone. And yeah, we just kind of want to go, like our own way," Brenda told Sportskeeda.

Brenda Fruhvirtova 'never really wished' to play against the Williams sisters

Even though Brenda has a major respect for the Williams sisters, she admits she never really wished to play against them. Serena ended her pro tennis career after the US Open, while Venus is still listed as active.

"When we were young, we used to watch a lot of the Williams sisters and Roger Federer, but I think I never wished, like to play against them," Brenda explained. This past week, Brenda captured her first title of the year at the ITF Bengaluru.

In the Bengaluru final, Brenda recovered from a set down to beat Ankita Raina 0-6 6-4 6-0. After the match, Brenda admitted that nothing was working in her game early on. “The movement was not there; the shots were not there.

Nothing was going my way. Mentally, it got hard for me. I couldn’t do anything. So I just kept trying, and somehow got into my flow," Brenda said after the match. Last year, Linda captured her first WTA title in Chennai. This past week, Brenda won an ITF event in India.

"Before coming to Bengaluru, Linda told me that this is a lucky place, and that I could be successful here. I believed it,” Brenda said.
