Clara Tauson reflects on upset Anett Kontaveit win

World No. 39 Clara Tauson thought everything was working for her against No. 6 seed Anett Kontaveit. Tauson, 19, stunned Kontaveit 6-2 6-4 to progress into the Australian Open third round. "I think everything was working," Tauson said with a smile in her post-match press conference, per the WTA website.

"I felt really comfortable on court. It was a nice court to play on. The weather was really good today. I just felt really good out there. Just went for everything and it worked today. "It's the first time I'm in the third round of a Slam.

Playing a player like her to reach it, it's a really big achievement for me. Obviously it was one of the things I really wanted to do, to beat the good players in the bigger tournaments. "Doing it in a Slam is a really great feeling.

It's just a lot of hard work that I've put into it. That it's here already in one of the first tournaments of the year is a really nice feeling. But I still have some work to do. I cannot be too happy with the win today, but I am really happy."

Tauson cruised past Kontaveit

Tauson claimed the first break of the match in the opening game and then two break points in the following game to take a 2-0 lead.

Tauson failed to convert a break point in the fifth game but broke Kontaveit again in the seventh game before serving out for the opener a game later. Kontaveit made a positive start to the second set, having taken an early 3-1 lead.

Tauson got the break back in the fifth game but Kontaveit claimed another break to take a 4-2 lead. After falling 4-2 down, Tauson claimed back-to-back breaks to overturn the deficit and seal a straight-set win. Tauson plays next Danielle Collins. Tauson now has a good chance to make the second week in her debut at Melbourne Park.
