What a scare in Guangzhou. Danish Clara Tauson collapsed to the ground during her match against Yulia Putintseva and, once rescued by doctors, she was forced to leave the court in a wheelchair. The tennis player took the first set 6-3, only to lose the second set of the round of 16 match in a tie-break.

In the first game of the third set, Clara collapsed while she was serving a break, but the tennis player struggled to get up, and was rescued by medical staff.

The problem may be due to the extreme weather conditions in China these days.

Adverse weather conditions also at the US Open

The US Open also experienced extreme weather conditions, with heat and humidity at alarming levels.

An example was the match between Daniil Medvedev and Andrey Rublev. They suffered greatly from the heat and high humidity in New York on Wednesday. After a few days, the evening conditions on Arthur Ashe Stadium, which are dramatically affecting the US Open 2023, have not improved at all.

A physical battle that spared no one, not even the people in the stands, and caused considerable difficulties. Both tennis players had to visit a doctor at one point in the match due to breathing difficulties and were barely able to catch their breath after the long exchanges.

The problem is not only related to the heat, but to the lethal combination with the very high humidity. On one of the occasions Daniil went to get the towel, he saw that the camera was filming him from very close up and decided to make a tough statement: "One day a tennis player will die here and you will see him."

Medvedev did not spare himself even at the press conference: "Brutal conditions for both.

We were sweating a lot and had to use a lot of towels. I no longer have skin on my nose and my face is red, but it's not from the sun.

I just saw Andrey in the dressing room and he was red in the face too. That says it all. How far can we go? We could play five sets, have some difficulties the next day and then be fine.

Or, we have a tennis player like Yibing Wu who passed out in Washington, possibly due to the heat."
