Copa Colsanitas: Sara Errani dumps Sara Sorribes Tormo out in 1R

Sara Errani caused the biggest upset at the Copa Colsanitas on Tuesday as she took out the second seed Sara Sorribes Tormo, 7-5, 7-5. The match lasted two hours and 11 minutes and featured 14 service breaks in total. In the pre-quarter-finals, the former French Open finalist will play another Spaniard in Aliona Bolsova.

In a match that had some controversial umpiring, Giulia Gatto-Monticone got the better of Astra Sharma. The Italian won 4-6, 7-5, 6-1 in two hours and 23 minutes. In the final set, with Gatto-Monticone serving in the third game, Sharma had three break points but the umpire erroneously called 30-15.

The lapse in concentration led to Sharma’s game collapsing for the rest of the match. After the match, Sharma sarcastically tweeted, “Update: WTA supervisor said I should learn my lesson and focus more on the score instead of my tennis in the future.

My confusion is not an excuse”. Meanwhile, in the second round, Gatto-Monticone will take on fifth seed Tamara Zidansek. The Slovenian defeated Anna Kalinskaya 6-0, 7-5 in an hour and 19 minutes.

Copa Colsanitas: Clara Tauson's the second seed to crash out

Seventh seed Tereza Martincova advanced to the second round with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 win over Switzerland’s Leonie Kung in two hours and 14 minutes.

The Czech will play Colombian wildcard Maria Camila Osorio Serrano in the second round. Osorio Serrano defeated Sachia Vickery 6-3, 6-2 in their first-round clash. Chilean qualifier Daniela Seguel upset the fourth-seeded Clara Tauson in the first round.

Seguel, ranked 213th in the world, lost the opening set but made a strong recovery to post a 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 win over the Dane in two hours and 23 minutes. In the next round, Seguel will play French qualifier Harmony Tan. Tan defeated Mihaela Buzarnescu 6-3, 6-3 in their first-round meeting.

Lara Arruabarrena claimed a dominant 6-0, 6-1 win over Colombian wildcard Jessica Plazas to move into the second round of the Copa Colsanitas. In the second round, the Spaniard will play Italy’s sixth seed Jasmine Paolini.
