Belarusian tennis player Aliaksandra Sasnovich upset Emma Raducanu at the French Open and afterward said he didn't expect things to go easy for her in 2022 after contracting COVID-19 during the preseason. On Wednesday, Sasnovich recovered from a set down to beat 12th-seeded Raducanu 3-6 6-1 6-1 in the French Open second round.
"Honestly, I had Covid few months ago,"Sasnovich said during her on-court interview, per Sportskeeda. "So I didn't prepare well for the crazy season, I didnt expect things to go easy, but yeah, I'm happy." Sasnovich also expressed her grattitude toward the Parisian crowd that came out to watch her match versus Raducanu.
"Yeah, of course, It's very changed because much more people come to see to watch us [after Covid]," Sasnovich added. "Yeah, it's more. You feel more atmosphere."
Sasnovich beats Raducanu again
Last year in Indian Wells, Sasnovich claimed a straight-set win over Raducanu.
Several months later, Sasnovich beat Raducanu again and showed that her first win over the Briton wasn't a fluke. "I'm very happy with the win. it was a tough match," Sasnovich said. "Yeah, [at the beginning of the second set] I tried to play more aggressive, I think.
Yeah, the point probably and mentally I was ready, you know, to play point my point." Raducanu enjoyed a bigger support but Sasnovich didn't take it to heart as she jokingly expressed hope that the Parisian crowd would be more supportive of her in her next match.
"I hope they will support me next time," Sasnovich said. "But yeah, because I heard that for Emma, there was more support. Yeah, because obviously she is a Grand Slam champion. Yes, she's a great player." Sasnovich, 28, is making her seventh appearance at the French Open. For the first time in her career, Sasnovich has been through to the third round at Roland Garros.
