Neal Skupski: I still can't really believe me and Desirae Krawczyk won Wimbledon

Great Britain's Neal Skupski couldn't believe he and American partner Desirae Krawczyk won the Wimbledon mixed doubles title. Skupski, who was partnering Krawczyk for the first time, captured his maiden Grand Slam mixed doubles title on Sunday.

Skupski and Krawczyk, seeded at No. 7, beat Joe Salisbury and Harriet Hart 6-2 7-6 (1) in the Wimbledon mixed doubles final. “I still can't really believe we won Wimbledon. It's crazy,” Skupski said, per the ATP website.

“Once we finished we did the trophy ceremony and walked in the back and our names were already on the honours board, which I couldn't quite believe. It's surreal. But I think we deserved it”.

Krawczyk won her favorite tournament

Skupski and Krawczyk trailed 2-1 after the opening three games but then they claimed back-to-back games and won five games in a row to win the opener.

Skupski and Krawczyk failed to convert any of their four break points in the third game of the second set so the set eventually went into a tie-break. Skupski and Krawczyk absolutely dominated the tie-break to book a straight-set win.

“It's my favourite tournament. [It is] something I never thought would happen, but obviously you dream about playing on Centre Court, and that was my first feeling of that,” Krawczyk said. “Then to win a mixed doubles [title] with Neal was even better”.

Skupski added: “I think it was our best match of the tournament. It was a good time to produce it. [It is] never easy to play against fellow Brits, especially for Desirae, playing her partner Joe”. Krawczyk partnered Salisbury at the French Open and the two won it all.

“Desirae is on fire in mixed doubles now, and hopefully it doesn't continue for the US Open,” Skupski said, cracking the laugh. “But [it was an] amazing week with Desirae. Unbelievable feeling”.
