Harriet Dart reacts to shock victory over Daria Kasatkina at US Open

World No. 80 Harriet Dart said she was in "disbelief" after pulling off a shock 7-6 (8) 1-6 6-3 victory over ninth-ranked Daria Kasatkina. Dart, who didn't play really well leading up to the US Open, clinched a big surprise victory on the opening day of the US Open after ousting Kasatkina.

Going into the match, Kasatkina was the absolute favorite to win the match. “To be honest I’m a little bit in shock right now,” Dart told Amazon Prime Video, via Tennis365. “Physically I don’t feel great but I really just tried to stick at it and push through, and I can’t believe I got the win”.

Andreescu, the 2019 US Open champion, was also in action on the opening day of the US Open. Andreescu made a convincing start to her first round match but then things got a bit complicated.

Still, Andreescu was able to close out Harmony Tan in three sets 6-0 3-6 6-1. "I think I started off very, very well, and then [Tan] kind of came back," Andreescu said, via the WTA website. "She changed her game style. I felt like she was playing more aggressive, coming to the net.

I was a bit thrown off guard, and then I had to regroup in the third set, because I know if I didn't, then I'm sure she could have won that third set. But I'm just happy with how I dealt with it at the end." After upsetting Kasatkina, Dart now has a good chance to continue her US Open run.

In the second round, Dart plays 91st-ranked Hungarian Dalma Galfi. Meanwhile, Andreescu is set for a much tougher challenge as she plays this year's Toronto finalist Beatriz Haddad Maia. Haddad Maia has had several notable results this summer and Andreescu certainly has a tough task ahead of her.
