Tennis- Third seed Sabine Lisicki, Sixth seed Eugenie Bouchard and Seventh seed Su-Wei Hsieh have advanced into the second round whereas fifth seed Nao Hibino faced an upset loss in the first round at the BMW Malaysian Open WTA Tournament in Kuala Lumpur.
2012 Champion and seventh seed Hsieh started the proceedings on the day and faced 22-year-old Slovakian Jana Cepelova. Hsieh broke her opponent early and raced to a 4-1 lead but the Slovakian made a comeback and levelled it at 4-4.
Hsieh got the control back as she got another break and took the first set 6-4. In the second set again she dominated and was 5-2 up and it followed another mini comeback from Cepelova, but Hsieh won the second set 6-4 to safely move into the next round.
2013 Wimbledon finalist and highest ranked player in action on the day, Lisicki faced some early resistance from World No.107 Magda Linette. The Polish player broke Lisicki early and was 3-1 up but then Lisicki won five of next six games to take the first set 6-4. The second set was even closer and had to be decided by a tie-break, which Lisicki won 7-5 to go through. Another Former Wimbledon finalist Eugenie Bouchard was an easy winner against Hong Kong's wildcard Ling Zhang in straight sets 6-3, 6-1 in just 70 minutes.
She will face Japan's Kurumi Nara, who edged Former World No.5 Daniela Hantuchova in a thrilling encounter which lasted for 3 hours and 20 minutes. Nara won 6-4, 6-7 (4), 7-6 (10). Hantuchova served for the match at 5-4 in the third set but could not hold.
She also missed two match points in the third set tie-break. Another Japanese Nao Hibino was the only seeded player to fall on the day, as she lost in straight sets 6-4, 6-2 to China's Ying-Ying Duan. The Chinese player is 62 ranks below Hibino in the WTA Rankings but she did not face a single break point in the whole match she pulled off an upset.
