Victoria Azarenka overcame some first set resistance by Yanina Wickmayer to beat the Belgian in straight sets 7-5, 6-4 in 1 hour and 44 minutes to move into the Third Round of the US Open.

The first set took just under an hour with both players exchanging breaks regularly. With a total of 5 breaks coming in the set, it was Azarenka’s late resurgence that helped her take the first set.With a total of 11 winners, the 20th seed found her range in the latter part of the set with Wickmayer committing a number of errors (14 in all) to give away the set.
