The 28-year-old Yanina Wickmayer has called it a season, making a decision to skip the Asian swing and get some rest before the start of 2019. A former world number 12 is currently ranked 98th and she scored just three WTA wins this year, one at Indian Wells and two at Wimbledon where she reached the third round.
Besides that, Yanina won ITF $25,000 Surprise title in February before reaching the quarter-final of the $125,000 event at Indian Wells where Kateryna Bondarenko defeated her in straight sets. In April, she was the semi-finalist at $125,000 event in Zhengzhou before that solid Wimbledon run that wasn't enough to give her a boost for the following months.
Yanina was defeated in the opening qualifying round in Montreal before winning one match at $100,000 Vancouver tournament two weeks later. At the US Open, Petra Kvitova toppled Wickmayer 6-1 6-4 and this would be the last match that the Belgian played in 2018.
Wickmayer was ranked 12th in 2010 and she won five WTA titles, the most recent one in Washington 2016.
