Known as the most famous tennis mum in the world of tennis (both Andy and Jamie were world no. 1 at one point), Judy Murray is a former Scottish national coach and the first woman first woman to earn the Lawn Tennis Association’s Performance Coach Award.
The initiator of the Scottish Development School programme, Judy became Great Britain's Fed Cup captain in 2011 and has always been devoted to promote tennis and offer a chance for kids in the United Kingdom to play in regularly, especially in rural and less-developed areas.
Now, she will embrace a new role after being named Director of Player Personnel and Community Engagement for the Philadelphia Freedoms of World TeamTennis. Judy will represent the Freedoms at the WTT draft on Tuesday, March 12 at Indian Wells and her primary responsibility is to oversee player recruitment.
Besides that, Murray will have to host the pre-match meet and greets with team partners and tennis clinics during the season, working together with Philadelphia Freedoms coach Craig Kardon who will lead the team for the 11th straight season.
Kevin Anderson, Sloane Stephens, Raquel Atawo, Gabriela Dabrowski, Kevin King, Fabrice Martin and Taylor Townsend are all representing the Freedoms who lost a tight 2018 final to Springfield Lasers when Miomir Kecmanovic defeated Kevin King.
“Judy brings a tremendous amount of expertise to our front office, and will work closely with our team and with General Manager Barbara Perry and her entire staff to provide additional depth and expertise for the Freedoms as we prepare for our 2019 season,” said team owner Billie Jean King.
“We are so fortunate to have Judy join us,” added General Manager Barbara Perry. “She will be on hand at matches to meet with our sponsors, fans, and friends to offer insight, guidance and share her success stories at select matches”.
