French Tennis Federation announced today names of players that received Australian Open main draw wild-cards. Invitations have been given to teenagers Quentin Halys and Ocean Dodin. Halys is 204th player of the world and he has made a big jump in the rankings during 2015, entering the season as 636th.
He is only the 7th best ranked Frenchman who missed main draw cut but also the youngest one, and this will be his second Grand Slam tournament in career, after 2015 Roland Garros when he played Rafael Nadal, winning 10 games.
Halys played two ATP tournaments so far, getting wild card in Nice before Roland Garros too, and he is still seeking for his first win. He won five Futures titles so far (four of them in 2015) and will look for sure for some Challenger success in 2016.
With favorable draw he could probably win one match in Melbourne thanks to nice package of serve and strong groundstrokes, though he is still unexperienced in best of 5 matches. Oceane Dodin received Australian Open wild card in 2015 too (her first WTA tournament in career), winning one match and losing in tight encounter against Karolina Pliskova.
Her Federation also provided her with a wild-card for the US Open, where she stunned world number 21 Jelena Jankovic. She finished the season with title in $25,000 tournament in Shrewsbury, reaching 154th place in the world rankings.
