Tennis - 22-year-old Belgian tennis player Greet Minnen has announced that she will not play any more tournaments this year due to an injury. Writing on Instagram, the Belgian player wrote on her social media account, "I will not play any more tournaments this season because of an injury.
That's not the way I wanted to end 2019 but it's still a very good season. It's now time to rest before preparing for 2020. I'm already looking forward to the competition again. " According to RTBF, Minnen is ranked No. 125 in the world in singles and plays doubles with Alison Van Uytvanck, also from the same country.
Minnen is ranked No. 114 in the world in doubles. The two are also partners off the court and are among the few players who are open on the tour about their relationship with each other. Minnen won the ITF singles event in Yokohoma and also reached the quarter-finals of the WTA event in Hobart earlier this year.
She also reached the final round of qualifying at Roland Garros and Wimbledon in singles and will be hoping to make her debut appearance in a Grand Slam singles draw next year. In the doubles draw, Minnen and Van Uytvanck reached the second round of the women's doubles at Wimbledon in July.
Minnen's last appearance on the tour was in late September in Tashkent where she lost to Ukraine's Kateryna Bondarenko in straight sets in the second round. She expects to be back on the tour in time for the Australian circuit in January.
