Prague Open: Barbora Krejcikova sets up QF against Katerina Siniakova

Barbora Krejcikova reached the quarter-finals of the Prague Open on Thursday. The second seed defeated Ysaline Bonaventure 7-6(2), 6-4 in an hour and 37 minutes. Krejcikova broke her opponent five times while losing her serve four times along the way.

She finished the match with 83 points to her opponent’s 65. For a place in the semi-finals, the world no. 17 will take on her doubles partner, Katerina Siniakova. Siniakova’s second-round match against fellow Czech, Tereza Smitkova had to be postponed to Thursday after rain forced its suspension on Wednesday.

The fifth-seeded Siniakova eventually prevailed 2-6, 7-6(3), 6-3 in two hours and 22 minutes. Siniakova converted five of the 10 break points she had while saving six break points herself. At the end of the match, only a point separated the two players.

Siniakova won 99 points while Smitkova won 100 points. Speaking about her clash against her teammate, Krejcikova said, “I'm just going to enjoy tomorrow and it's gonna be a lot of fun”.

Meanwhile, in the second-round Slovakian derby between Rebecca Sramkova and Viktoria Kuzmova, the latter won 6-4, 7-5.

In the quarter-finals, Kuzmova will now play eighth seed Tereza Martincova. Martincova defeated Asia Muhammad 6-3, 6-4. Lastly, on Wednesday, Grace Min posted an upset over seventh seed Nina Stojanovic. The American came from a set down to oust the Serbian 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 in two hours and nine minutes.

In the last eight, Min will play Xinyu Wang of China. Wang came through her second-round clash against En-Shou Liang of Chinese Taipei 3-6, 7-5, 6-1 on Thursday. Ninth seed Greet Minnen also took her place in the quarter-finals of the Prague Open.

The Belgian won against Russian lucky loser Anastasia Gasanova 6-3, 7-6(3) in an hour and 45 minutes. Minnen will take on Australian Storm Sanders for a place in the semi-finals. Sanders defeated Spain’s Nuria Parrizas Diaz 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 in two hours and six minutes in their round-of-16 match.
