The 2023 Transylvania Open finale will be contested between Tamara Korpatsch and Elena-Gabriela Ruse. Neither player conceded a set in their respective encounters in the penultimate round. Playing first, Tamara Korpatsch got through against fellow countrywoman, Eva Lys.

Korpatsch needed an hour and 22 minutes to post a 6-4, 6-3 win. The world no. 105 won 76% of her first-serve points and 51% points on return on Lys’ first serve. She also converted all five break points she got on the latter’s serve while saving five of seven break points she encountered.

Meanwhile, in the second semi-final, Ruse ensured that a home player would lay a claim to the title in Romania. Ruse posted one last upset in the tournament as she took out the last seed standing, the Spanish fourth seed, Rebeka Masarova.

She needed just a minute less than Korpatsch to wrap up a 6-1, 6-4 victory. Ruse converted seven break points on Masarova’s serve and saved two of five break points she faced. She finished the match with 18 more points than her opponent’s 45.

The Transylvania Open final’s the third of Elena-Gabriela Ruse’s career. She’s looking to clinch her second WTA crown. Meanwhile, the 28-year-old Tamara Korpatsch is a debutant at this stage of a WTA tournament.
