Local hope Shuai Zhang, seeded third, also powered into the last-8 stage, after posting a 6-2, 6-2 victory over 97th-ranked Julia Glushko in the second round of the tournament.
Meanwhile, Anna-Lena Friedsam stunned 7th seed Ajla Tomljanovic 6-4, 6-4 to seal her berth in the quarterfinals. Saisai Zheng also made her place into the quarters, following her 6-3, 6-1 conquest over Alla Kudryavtseva in the pre-quarterfinals.
