Sloane Stephens was pleased by her lightning-fast win – 6/0, 6/2 -, against the Chinese player Yafan Wang, which marked her second trouble-free victory in the current Wimbledon edition. After having no problems against former top 10 player Timea Bacsinszky in the first round, Sloane pulled up an even clearer triumph by crushing Y.Wang in a pretty unmerciful manner.
Even if Stephens was broken once, Yafan suffered enormously on her own service games as she managed to win only one of her seven service games. The American pointed out that she is pleased with the way she played: “I thought I played a good, solid match, obviously from the beginning, so I was happy with that.
I felt like I executed my game plan well, and that’s all you can really do. I was just happy to get a good win today”. Stephens recognized that grass hasn’t brought the best results for her and she’s right about that.
She lost in the first round of Wimbledon in 2018 and 2017 while her best performance came six years ago when she was denied by Marion Bartoli in the quarterfinals. “Obviously grass hasn’t been my best surface, so just to come and try to give myself the best opportunity to win some matches and get going and get some confidence on it is pretty good.
I’m happy with that”, declared Stephens in her post-match conference. Stephens will meet crowd-favourite and number 19 seed, Johanna Konta, in her next match.
