It took Jessica Pegula an hour and 23 minutes to hoist the Korea Open title on Sunday. The American, who was the highest-seeded player in the South Korean capital this week, won 6-2, 6-3 against Chinese Yue Yuan. This was the maiden finale of Yuan's career on the WTA main tour.

Pegula won 17 of 25 points she played on her first serve. Her opponent also won 17 points but out of 31 first-serve points. Pegula also won 20 of 30 points on return on Yuan’s second serve while winning 15 of 28 played on her second serve.

The world no. 4 who entered the main draw this week as a wildcard, saved three of the five break points she faced while converting six break points that she brought up on Yuan’s serve.

Korea Open: Jessica Pegula's homecoming

After her win, Pegula spoke about her connect to the country, through her mother, who’s Korean.

She stated, My mom is Korean and she was adopted from here so it's really special to be able to win here. In the last few years, as my ranking has gone up, I've definitely felt so much more support from the fans, a lot more than I expected coming back here from five years ago.

So it's really special”. The Korea Open’s the second trophy Jessica Pegula’s won in 2023. Earlier, she won the Canadian Open prior to the US Open (d. Liudmila Samsonova).
