Ladies Open Lausanne: Olga Danilovic & Petra Martic bid to claim career title no. 2

Olga Danilovic and Petra Martic will take on each other for the Ladies Open Lausanne title on Sunday. Earlier on Saturday, Danilovic and Martic won their semi-finals respectively against Anastasia Potapova and Caroline Garcia.

At the top of the draw, in her semi-final, the Serbian needed an hour and 10 minutes to beat Potapova, 6-3, 6-2. Danilovic won 58% of her first-serve points to Potapova’s 62% and 63% of her second-serve points. She also won 79% of points on return on Potapova’s second serve.

Danilovic lost her serve just once across the match and converted five of the eight break points that she had on her opponent's serve. This is the second career final of Danilovic's career. In the only other final she’s played, at the 2018 Moscow Cup, she won the title after getting past Potapova.

Ladies Open Lausanne: Petra Martic's time

After her win against the familiar opponent in the Swiss event, Danilovic said, “From the beginning to the end, it was a really tough one. Maybe the result doesn't say so. I'm really happy with how I played.

I think I was very consistent... and it was a good result for me. It was just a couple of points that (made the difference). I was just playing point by point, being calm, and believing in myself”. Martic, on the other hand, needed the entirety of three sets to upset the sixth-seeded Garcia.

After an hour and 52 minutes of play, the Croatian won 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 against the Frenchwoman. Like Danilovic, Martic’s also trying to claim a second title victory. Earlier, on Friday, in the quarter-finals of the Ladies Open Lausanne, Martic upset the second-seeded Belinda Bencic, 6-3, 7-6(2) while Garcia won against the fourth-seeded Sara Sorribes Tormo, 6-4, 6-1.

Lastly, Danilovic beat Simona Walter, 6-4, 4-6, 7-6(5) while Potapova outlasted Jule Niemeier 6-4, 6-2. Photo Credit: WTA Twitter
