Poland Open: Iga Swiatek holds Polish hopes aloft in Warsaw; moves into the last-8

Iga Swiatek booked her place in the quarter-finals of the Poland Open on Thursday with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Gabriela Lee. The world no. 1 needed an hour and 12 minutes to wrap up the proceedings.
Swiatek saved the lone break point she faced while converting three of the four break points she had on the Romanian qualifier's serve.

She also won 82% of her first-serve points and 77% of her second-serve points in the match. In comparison, Lee finished with 53% points on both her first and second serves.

In the quarters, Swiatek will take on Caroline Garcia.

The French fifth seed claimed a 6-3, 7-5 win over Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto in an hour and 37 minutes. Garcia saved all five break points she faced while converting two of the four break points she had on Cocciaretto's serve.

Poland Open: Jasmine Paolini revives Italian aspirations

Cocciaretto's compatriot, Jasmine Paolini needed three sets to reach the quarters in the Polish capital.

The 10th seed posted a 6-1, 6-7(1), 6-0 against Garcia's fellow countrywoman, Clara Burel in an hour and 49 minutes. Paolini didn’t face a single break point across the first and third sets. In the deciding set, Burel didn’t win any point off her second serve this adding to Paolini's domination in the set's proceedings.

Paolini will play Viktorija Golubic.

The Swiss needed two hours and 38 minutes to post a 6-7(4), 6-2, 6-1 win over another French player, Kristina Mladenovic.

In the bottom half of the draw, eighth-seeded Petra Martic will play Ukraine's Kateryna Baindl for a chance to reach the semi-finals of the Poland Open.

Martic, who’s the only seed left in this section of the draw defeated Poland's Maja Chwalinska, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 in their second-round match. Meanwhile, Baindl advanced after her opponent, Sara Errani retired mid-match with the former leading, 6-2, 3-0.
