Tennis- Second seed Elina Svitolina booked her place in the Quarterfinals of the BMW Malaysian Open WTA Tournament, although she dropped a set against Japanese qualifier Risa Ozaki. Chinese qualifier Lin Zhu, Great Britain's Naomi Broady and Cagla Buyukakcay also booked their place in last 8.
Top seed Roberta Vinci is already out so second seed Svitolina is the highest ranked player left in the draw. World No.19 Svitolina's 21-year-old opponent is 114 ranks below her in the ranking and had entered as a qualifer.
Svitolina broke Ozaki early and raced to a 3-0 lead and broke her one more time to take the first set 6-1. Ozaki improved in the second set and although Svitolina broke her twice, she broke the Ukrainian three times to take the second set 6-3 and forced a deciding set.
But Svitolina got her form back in the third set and did not give any chance to her opponent, as she took the third set 6-0 and moved into the Quarterfinals. Turkey's Cagla Buyukakcay will meet sixth seed Eugenie Bouchard next, as the Turkish player defeated Kai-Chen Chang in straight sets 7-5, 6-3. Chang had defeated top seed Roberta Vinci in the first round and had beaten Buyukakcay twice in the past but this time she took revenge.
Great Britain's Naomi Broady also reached last by beating China's Zhaoxuan Yang in straight sets 6-4 6-3. She will face third seed Sabine Lisicki next. The fourth Quarterfinals will be an all Chinese affair as Lin Zhu defeated Zarina Diyas 7-5, 6-2 and will face Wang Qiang next.
