WTA Rome: Aryna Sabalenka eliminated by Sofia Kenin

The women's draw of the Internazionali BNL d'Italia, in Rome, is already the victim of the first twists and turns. Jessica Pegula and especially Aryna Sabalenka go out in the second round, in their debut match. The American is defeated by her countrywoman Townsend, who wins with a 6-2 3-6 6-3.

for the Belarusian, champion of the Madrid tournament, a 6-7 2-6 defeat arrives in favor of Sofia Kenin, former Australian Open champion. Sofia Kenin thus reached the third round of the tournament, where she will face the Ukrainian Anhelina Kalinina.

Sabalenka's one is the second elimination of a top player today, as just mentioned above, after that of number 3 in the WTA ranking, Jessica Pegula. Below the highlights of the match between Sabalenka and Kenin:

The men's tournament

Matteo Arnaldi is still the protagonist.

After the excellent Madrid tournament, having arrived in Rome certain of his wild card for the main draw, he is ready for his debut at the Foro Italico. He beat Diego Schwartzman in three sets, with the score 6-1, 4-6, 6-3.

Two and a half hours of tennis to overcome an opponent who was difficult, but who is now, as the match demonstrated, in difficulty, from a physical and tennis point of view. The first set is proof of this, where Arnaldi breaks two serves from his opponent, on both occasions at the first break point.

In the second set, the Argentine clings to the best version of himself, especially in the final: it is in fact, at 5-4 that Diego breaks serve to close the set. In the third, Arnaldi is good at starting with an extra gear, the one needed to immediately get the break.

However, that is not enough for the blue tennis player: on Schwartzman's serve, the new blue in the top 100 gets two match points, both wasted. At the third he made no mistake and won his first victory at the Foro Italico.

Instead, Napolitano doesn't make it through the round. The Italian falls by the hand of Alex Molcan: the tiebreak of the third set was fatal, with the Slovak winning 6-4, 3-6, 6-7. ATP has not given particular thrills, with tennis players still grappling with the first round.
