Sofia Kenin gets brutally honest on what really drives her to return to top of tennis

Sofia Kenin, 24, reveals one factor behind her determination to return to the top is her desire to "prove some people wrong." Kenin, the 2020 Australian Open champion, hasn't won a WTA title in over three years. After her Australian Open victory, Kenin started to battle injuries and that played a major part in her results spiraling.

But former world No 3 Kenin has been showing positive signs recently and she is also doing well at Wimbledon. After stunning world No 7 Cori Gauff in her Wimbledon opener, Kenin also defeated Wang Xinyu to reach the Wimbledon third round.

Kenin: Just trying to prove some people wrong

"Yeah, obviously I'm super excited. Just trying to prove some people wrong. Just super proud of myself with the way I really fought, you know, through to get here and keep the momentum going.

Yeah, I'm just putting in the hard work and it's paying off. I didn't have maybe the best results, but I felt like this year, you know, I started off pretty good overall and I just had to find my way. I have been fighting it.

Yeah, just hope that I can keep it going. I mean, honestly, I just feel like I had to click. Like I said, I started off the year pretty good. Then, yeah, I mean, I feel like I needed more matches. And, you know, I knew if I put in the work and do the right things, eventually, it's going to click, and I'm super happy it's clicking here," Kenin said.

Just a few years ago, Kenin became a Grand Slam champion and was ranked inside the top-5 in the world. Over the last year, Kenin's health has stabilized and she has been able to play again for a longer period of time. Now, Kenin is also slowly rediscovering her old game and she might be on the path to returning to the top.
