Ladies Open Lausanne: Top seeds Tamara Zidansek, Fiona Ferro book 2R spots

The first two days of play of the Ladies Open Lausanne were quite hectic, with rain playing spoiler. On Monday, top-seed Tamara Zidansek advanced to the second round with a win over Russia’s Marina Melnikova. The Slovenian dropped the opening set but changed the course of the match to post a 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 win after almost two hours of play.

In the second round, Zidansek will either play another Russian in Varvara Gracheva or Luxembourg’s Mandy Minella. Another Russian, the eighth seed Anna Blinkova won her opening-round match on Tuesday. Blinkova defeated Belarus’ Olga Govortsova 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 in two hours and six minutes.

In the round-of-16, Blinkova will play Italian qualifier Lucia Bronzetti. Bronzetti won against Swiss wildcard Tess Sugnaux 6-1, 6-0 in 68 minutes.

Ladies Open Lausanne: Swiss players crash out

Second seed Fiona Ferro won the French derby against Harmony Tan in the first round.

Ferro won 7-5, 6-2 in an hour and 29 minutes. In the second round, Ferro will play American wildcard Alycia Parks. Parks ousted German Anna-Lena Friedsam 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 in their first-round clash. Ferro’s compatriot Clara Burel also made it to the second round.

Burel defeated Swiss Susan Bandecchi 6-0, 6-2 in their opener in 65 minutes. In the second round, Burel will play either sixth seed Arantxa Rus or Kamilla Rakhimova. Russia’s Natalia Vikhlyantseva defeated Katarina Zavatska 4-6, 6-4, 6-0 in their opener on Monday Vikhlyantseva needed two hours and 26 minutes to complete the victory.

In the second round, she’ll play either Greek qualifier Valentini Grammatikopoulou or seventh-seeded Italian Jasmine Paolini. Paolini’s compatriot, the fifth-seeded Camila Giorgi also reached the second round at the Ladies Open Lausanne.

Giorgi posted a 64-minute win over Norwegian qualifier Ulrikke Eikeri 6-2, 6-0. In the second round, Giorgi will play Kazakh Zarina Diyas. Diyas defeated Swiss wildcard Simona Waltert 6-4, 6-4 in the first round.
