Guadalajara Open: Sloane Stephens reaches last-8; Camila Osorio survives

Daria Saville and Sloane Stephens will play each other for a place in the semi-finals of the Guadalajara Open. The Australian came through her second-round clash against Caroline Dolehide, 6-1, 6-3 in 67 minutes on Thursday.

Saville reaped more rewards when it came to winning points off her second serves. She won 71% of her second-serve points to the American’s 26%. In terms of break points, Saville saved three of the four break points she faced while converting five of the six break points on Dolehide’s serve.

Meanwhile, in her second-round match-up, Stephens, the sixth seed, defeated France’s Chloe Paquet, 7-5, 6-4 in an hour and 51 minutes. Stephens put 77% of her first-serves in to Paquet’s 55%, winning 58% of her first-serve points to Paquet’s 46%.

While Stephens lost her serve thrice during the course of the match, she also broke Paquet five times. Meanwhile, defending champion, Sara Sorribes Tormo also reached the quarter-finals on Thursday. The Spaniard, the third seed in the draw, needed an hour and 25 minutes to beat Magdalena Frech.

Sorribes Tormo dropped her serve just once in the match while converting six of the 11 break points she had on the Pole’s serve.

Guadalajara Open: Sara Sorribes Tormo extends winning run in Mexico

For a place in the semi-finals, Sorribes Tormo will take on Marie Bouzkova.

The Czech reached the quarter-finals on Wednesday with a 7-6(2), 6-2 win over Italian Lucia Bronzetti. Right at the bottom of the draw, Anna-Karolina Schmiedlova and Qiang Wang will play each other for a semi-final berth. Earlier both the Slovakian and the Chinese reached the quarters on Wednesday.

Schmiedlova defeated Anastasia Potapova, 6-3, 7-6(5) while Wang ousted Harmony Tan, 6-4, 6-2 in their respective round-of-16 clashes. The last quarter-final at the Guadalajara Open will be contested between fourth seed Camila Osorio and Anna Kalinskaya.

The Russian reached the quarters on Wednesday with a 6-4, 0-6, 6-4 win over Xinyu Wang. On Thursday, in the last match of the day, the fourth-seeded Osorio came from a set down to win against Hailey Baptiste, 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 in two hours and four minutes.
