Katie Boulter reacted to replacing Emma Raducanu as the British female No 1 as the 26-year-old Briton is confident this is a sign she is heading in the right direction. On Monday, Boulter found herself ranked at No 126 in the world while Raducanu plummeted to No 128.
In 2019, Boulter achieved a career-high ranking of No 82 in the world. Although Boulter being ranked at No 126 is definitely not Boulter's ultimate goal, it is the ranking that made her the new British No 1 for the first time in her career.
Going forward, Boulter hopes to build on this feat and continue her rise.
Boulter on replacing Raducanu as the British No 1
"Been mulling over whether I was going to post this today. It's not my highest ranking nor my best career moment however someone reminded me today that this little girl would be proud if I told her she would be British number 1 one day.
Whether it be for one minute one day or one year it's not my biggest goal but shows I'm heading in the right direction. Now I've got work to do as my main goals are pending," Boulter said in a message posted on her Twitter.
Since Raducanu exited the top-100 in May, Great Britain has been without a single female top-100 player. But there are five British girls ranked between 100-150.pic.twitter.com/8y1s7KCE6m — Katie Boulter (@katiecboulter) June 12, 2023
Boulter believes soon there will be British girls ranked inside the top-100. "We can all say 'we haven't got this, we haven't got that', but we are all working towards something and we are all working really hard. I hope we can continue to focus on the positives.
I think it is a fascinating thing, we have got some really good players between 200 and 100, and I think we are all capable of being top 100 players. I think we are going in the right direction, let's just keep it positive," Boulter said last week.
