Belinda Bencic shares first message since heartbreaking Wimbledon loss to Iga Swiatek

Belinda Bencic has shared her first message since a heartbreaking Wimbledon loss to Iga Swiatek, saying her campaign at The Championships was still "a highlight" and a memorable experience. At this year's Wimbledon, former world No 4 Bencic made the round-of-16 before suffering a 6-7 (4) 7-6 (2) 6-3 loss to Swiatek on the Centre Court.

In the 12th game of the second set - when Swiatek was serving to stay in the match - Bencic missed out on two consecutive match points. That moment changed the course of the match as Swiatek went on to claim a big comeback win over Bencic.

"Wimbledon 2023. It was a highlight and a dream come true to play on center court (only my 2nd time) and I was overwhelmed at times how surreal it felt. I'm really grateful I was able to experience that kind of match and I will always remember this memory, win or loose," Bencic tweeted.

Bencic was inches away from beating Swiatek

Down by two match points, Swiatek went for it and managed to save both match points.

After Swiatek saved two consecutive match points, some felt Bencic would regret not being aggressive and going for it when she had two match points. But after the match was over, Bencic insisted she had no regrets over the way she played on her match points.

"No, I don't think so. I made two good returns, and of course I tried to make her play. She came up with a great shot. That's well done from her. I would do the same thing again. Yeah, I mean, as you can imagine, of course it hurts right now, but I still, I think I'm still super proud of myself.

I also do not have any regrets like in terms what I would have done different today on the court. Yeah, I thought it was a great match," Bencic added after the match. Meanwhile, Bencic was scheduled to represent Switzerland in this week's Hopman Cup but withdew.
