Tokyo Olympics: No. 1 seeds Barbora Krejcikova, Katerina Siniakova capture gold medal

Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova of the Czech Republic have won the Tokyo Olympics doubles title. Krejcikova and Siniakova, seeded at No. 1, saw off Switzerland's Belinda Bencic and Viktorija Golubic 7-5 6-1 in the Tokyo Olympics final.

Bencic and Golubic had the first break point of the match in the second game but failed to convert. Krejcikova and Siniakova converted their first break point in the 11th game, before routinely serving out for the opener in the following game.

After winning a tight first set, Krejcikova and Siniakova started the second set with back-to-back breaks and a 3-0 lead. Bencic and Golubic got one break back in the fourth game to reduce the deficit to 3-1. However, Krejcikova and Siniakova kept her focus as they again earned back-to-back breaks to win three games in a row and book a straight-set win.

Krejcikova and Siniakova continue their outstanding season

Krejcikova and Siniakova have now won it all together four times this season. Earlier this season, Krejcikova and Siniakova won it all at a WTA event in Melbourne, before making it all the way at the Rome Masters and French Open.

On the other side, Bencic fell short in her attempt to win a double gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics. In the Tokyo Olympics singles final, Bencic beat Czech Marketa Vondrousova. “If I end my career now without winning any additional matches, then I would still be happy,” Bencic said, per the ITF website.

“What I have reached today no one can take away from me. I'm incredibly grateful for everyone who made this happen”. Bencic also revealed after he victory that she was texted by Roger Federer. "Roger wrote to me today,” Bencic revealed.

“He said this is the perfect day to reach my dreams. I was really happy about that, and he was absolutely right. He's incredible in that way. He really supports all the Swiss players – it's incredible the support I receive from Roger, and this win is for him."
