Mirra Andreeva is drawing inspiration from Roger Federer as she believes she will also be able to learn how to contain her emotions better on the court. Andreeva, who turned 16 in April, is one of the most stunning and impressive talents in the game.
At Wimbledon - where Andreeva made the round-of-16 as a qualifier - she delivered some great tennis but also had some not-so-great moments on the court. In a round-of-16 loss against Madison Keys, Andreeva was twice hit with a code violation and also started arguing with the chair umpire late in the match.
For her actions, Andreeva later received a $8000 fine. Early in his career, Federer was struggling to contain his emotions. But then, Federer became one of the most composed and calm players on the court.
Andreeva: Federer was also struggling with containing emotions as a teenager
"I knew that Federer was struggling with emotions when he was a teenager.
Actually, when I was younger, I saw that, well, he was struggling also. I'm not the only one who also struggles. I thought that I just need to wait a little bit and it will go away. But it doesn't work like this. You just have to work on yourself.
As faster you'll do it, then the results will come also faster, I think. I started to work on myself just with myself. I think it works pretty good now, yes," Andreeva said. Andreeva had an impressive debut at The All England Club and she is hoping for even better results at the most prestigious tournament in the future.
"For me, it was an amazing experience, as you said. Amazing matches I've played here. First time on grass. I'm happy with my result, but also at the same time, I'm sad and disappointed a little bit. Next year I hope, and I will do my best, to do better," Andreeva said.
