Katerina Siniakova won the 2023 Jiangxi Open title on Sunday after pipping Marie Bouzkova in the finale. Siniakova needed a little over three hours and 30 minutes to get past her higher-ranked fellow Czech, who was seeded third this week.

The final score read 1-6, 7-6(5), 7-6(4) in favour of Siniakova. The first set slipped away from Siniakova in a flash. In that set, Bouzkova won five on six points played on return on Siniakova’s second serve to keep herself comfortably ahead.

The lone game that Siniakova won did come by way of a break but on her own serve, Siniakova failed to save the three break points she faced.

In the second set, too, Bouzkova raced ahead and it felt like the match would end in her favour.

But although Bouzkova did bring up a match point in the ninth game of the set, Siniakova thwarted her and thus began her fight back into the match. The 27-year-old clinched the tie-break and pushed the match into the deciding set.

The last set, too, played out similarly with Bouzkova getting a break and bringing up a couple of match points in the ninth game. However, it felt like déjà vu as Siniakova once again brushed aside the match points and went about securing her way to the title, in the tie-break.

The previous Sunday, Katerina Siniakova had to face disappointment as she came second to Leylah Fernandez’s titlist at the Hong Kong Open. For this year, the Jiangxi Open crown’s the second time Siniakova’s hoisted a title.

She’d won the Bad Homburg Open prior to Wimbledon, previously. Siniakova will now play doubles (alongside Barbora Krejcikova) at the WTA Finals in Cancun, Mexico, in a couple of weeks.
