On Friday, eight players at the Jiangxi Open had to pull double duty — needing to play their second-round and quarter-final matches back-to-back — in order to make it to the semi-finals. Leylah Fernandez was among the four players who won their matches and moved on ahead in the draw.

The left-hander defeated Aliaksandra Sasnovich in their quarter-final meeting, 6-3, 6-4 in an hour and 23 minutes. Fernandez won 70% of her first-serve points to her opponent winning 58% of her first-serve points. Fernandez saved three of the five break points she faced while converting four break points on Sasnovich’s serve.

Looking to win her ninth straight match next, the 21-year-old will take on Katerina Siniakova. This will be a rematch of their clash at the Hong Kong Open last Sunday, in which Fernandez prevailed leading to the start of her ongoing victory streak.

Earlier, Fernandez won her second-round match against Xiaodi You, 6-4, 6-1. Sasnovich won her second-round match against Valeria Savinykh, 6-3, 6-2. Siniakova, meanwhile, won her second-round match against Varvara Gracheva 6-4, 6-3.

In the quarter-final, the Czech received a walkover from Laura Siegemund. The other semi-final at the Jiangxi Open will be played between Diana Shnaider and Marie Bouzkova. Shnaider put an end to Nao Hibino’s run in the quarters, 6-0, 7-5. The third-seeded Bouzkova came through against Camila Osorio 6-0, 6-4.
