Marie Bouzkova and Katerina Siniakova will vie for the Jiangxi Open title on Sunday. On Saturday, the two players made their way through to the last round after posting straight-set victories in their respective semi-finals.

In the first semi-final, the third-seeded Bouzkova, the lone seed left in the draw, came from a break down against Diana Shnaider to clinch a 7-6(5), 6-2 win. The match finished after almost an hour and 45 minutes. Both players struggled to control their game in the match.

Shnaider began well but soon errors crept up in her game and this allowed Bouzkova a strong foothold back into the match. In the first set, a telling stat was that Shnaider had 19 winners while Bouzkova had zero. However, Shnaider’s unforced error-count stood at five times the tally that Bouzkova hit in the set — five.

In the second set, the gap between the two opponents widened further. Bouzkova won 17 of 19 points on return on Shnaider’s first serve. She also converted all four break points on Shnaider’s serve while saving five of seven break points she faced.

Meanwhile, in the other semi-final, Siniakova thwarted Leylah Fernandez’s attempt to make it to two WTA finals in as many weeks. After two hours and seven minutes, Siniakova claimed a 7-5, 6-4 win for herself.

This win also saw her avenge her defeat to the Canadian in the previous week, in Hong Kong to the southpaw. The Jiangxi Open final will be the second time Marie Bouzkova and Katerina Siniakova will take on each other, with the latter having claimed the win that time.
