Second seed Anhelina Kalinina – the highest seed in the Transylvania Open – advanced to the quarter-finals on Thursday. The Ukrainian beat Ysaline Bonaventure 6-3, 6-2 in an hour and 16 minutes in their pre-quarter-final clash.
Kalinina saved six of the seven break points she faced while converting four break points on Bonaventure’s serve. In the quarter-finals, Kalinina will play Anna Blinkova. Blinkova defeated Xinyu Wang 6-4, 2-6, 6-1 in an hour and 50 minutes in their second-round clash.
Transylvania Open: Xiyu Wang outlasts Elena-Gabriela Ruse
Wang’s compatriot, Xiyu Wang also took her place in the quarter-finals. The seventh-seeded Wang ousted the last remaining Romanian in Cluj-Napoca, Elena-Gabriela Ruse.
Wang needed three hours and 26 minutes to post a 6-1, 6-7(8), 7-6(6) win. Wang will play Nuria Parrizas Diaz next, looking to reach the semi-finals. The Spaniard took out Dalma Galfi 6-1, 6-4 in 70 minutes. Meanwhile, the last second-round match played on Thursday saw fourth seed Anastasia Potapova reach the quarter-finals.
Potapova ousted Viktorija Golubic 6-2, 6-3 in an hour and 80 minutes. Potapova saved six of the eight break points she faced while converting six of the 12 break points that came her way on the Swiss’ serve. Potapova will play Anna Bondar next.
The Hungarian, seeded eighth, came through against Harriet Dart 7-6(3), 6-4 in an hour and 52 minutes on Wednesday. Jasmine Paolini also took her place in the quarter-finals on Wednesday. The Italian defeated Dayana Yastremska 6-4, 6-1 in merely 58 minutes.
Paolini secured four breaks of serve on the Ukrainian’s serve while saving three of the four break points she faced. She won 81% of her first-serve points to Yastremska’s 64%. Paolini’s next opponent at the Transylvania Open will be Jule Niemeier.
