The Lyon Open lost two of its seeds on the first day of play on Monday. Fourth seed Alize Cornet and sixth seed Ana Konjuh crashed out of the tournament after losing their first-round matches to Cristina Bucsa and Katie Boulter respectively.

In the match between Cornet and Bucsa, the Spanish qualifier came from a set down to win 1-6, 6-4, 6-1 in two hours and nine minutes. In the first set, Cornet ran with the proceedings. She won 91% of her first-serve points and saved both break points she faced.
