Iga Swiatek beats Samsonova to win the China Open, the match-point
by LORENZO CIOTTI
Iga Swiatek won the China Open 2023, the last WTA 1000 of the season, with a total prize money of 8,127,389 dollars, staged on the hard courts of Beijing. The Polish tennis player, seeded number 2, defeated the Russian Liudmila Samsonova in straight sets 6-2 6-2 in the final.
Liudmila Samsonova granted 26 unforced errors in 16 games, compared to the zeros scored by the Pole, who is very good at sending her opponent out of gear. The most serious problem in the Russian match was that of wanting to try to play only on her power, depriving her of shooting every single ball to the maximum.
A strategy that didn't work, which ended up in the Pole's net.
With this victory, Swiatek won her sixth career WTA 1000 title, her first this year, and her sixteenth career title overall from 20 finals played, as well as $1.3 million in prize money.

The results at the ATP Masters 1000 in Shanghai
Despite having little physical energy, Jannik Sinner came from behind to reach the round of 16 at the ATP Master 1000 in Shanghai.
Sebastian Baez did not take advantage of the situation and eventually surrendered in three sets to the Italian player after two hours of play. On Tuesday Sinner will face the American Ben Shelton.
Lorenzo Sonego was not surprised by the suspension of the match against Frances Tiafoe, beating the American to reach the third round.
Daniil Medvedev was eliminated by Sebastian Korda, who was very capable of coming out on top especially in the very tight first set. Having reached the tie-break, the two started a great battle which ended 10-8 in favor of the American.
In the second, the number 26 seed began to play with more intensity and courage, while the Russian's energy tank was further reduced. The 27-year-old native of Moscow surrendered 6-2, saying goodbye to China who gave him a runner-up trophy at the ATP 500 in Beijing this year.
