One of the most discussed and eventful matches of the week was the match between Jelena Ostapenko and Victoria Azarenka, at the Brisbane International 2024. The quarter-final match of the Australian WTA reserved many emotions for fans and crowds.
Speaking of court, the Belarusian beat the Latvian 6-3, 3-6, 7-5, but it was the controversy generated by Ostapenko that drove the fans crazy.
The Latvian was the protagonist of a moment of great controversy with the chair umpire.
In the third set, in fact, the number 12 of the WTA ranking felt that her ball had bounced twice into her opponent's court, before it was returned to her. The chair umpire, of a different opinion, was then attacked by the 26-year-old, who protested vehemently, yelling very harsh words: "I don't want you in my match anymore.
You will never be present in my match. You ruin it. my meetings." Below is the video shared on X by The Tennis Letter.

The other matches
In the next round, Azarenka will face Elena Rybakina. After just one set, the WTA No.
4 reached the semifinals of the WTA event in Brisbane. The reason is Anastasia Potapova's withdrawal from the match, which thus left the path free for the Kazakh tennis player. On the other side of the draw, the Czech Linda Noskova bet Mirra Andreeva.
She kept the number 1 seed Aryna Sabalenka as the underdog, who defeated the Russian Darya Kasatkina in two sets. The possible challenge in the final between the Belarusian and Rybakina is gaining more and more traction. In the men's tournament, Australian Jordan Thompson achieved a real milestone, beating Rafael Nadal in three sets and over three hours of play.
The Australian played tennis that was as risky as it was effective and tried not to lose ground with shots beyond the baseline. Thompson completed the comeback and eliminated Nadal with the score of 5-7, 7-6(6), 6-3. The Spaniard can still be satisfied with the level expressed upon his return after almost a year and with the two victories obtained against Dominic Thiem and Jason Kubler.
