World No 42 Marketa Vondrousova has surpassed Venus Williams as the lowest-ranked Wimbledon champion, per OptaAce. Vondrousova, who was unseeded at this year's Wimbledon, ousted No 6 seed Ons Jabeur 6-4 6-4 in the final at The Championships.
In 2007, Williams was ranked at No 31 when she won Wimbledon. Now, 24-year-old Vondrousova is officially holding the new record for the lowest-ranked champion at The All England Club. When the WTA rankings get updated on Monday, Vondrousova will be enjoying a career-high ranking of No 10 in the world.

Going into the final, Jabeur was considered the favorite and many expected the Tunisian to make a big breakthrough after losing two Grand Slam finals in 2022.
Jabeur actually got off to a good start to the final, taking an early 2-0 lead. But Vondrousova quickly responded, breaking back Jabeur in the third game. After blowing an early break, Jabeur broke Vondrousova again in the sixth game for a 4-2 lead.
Then, Vondrousova claimed back-to-back breaks and won four games in a row to overturn the deficit and win the first set. After winning the first set, Vondrousova also broke Jabeur in the first game of the second set. Down by a set and a break, Jabeur responded with back-to-back breaks in the second and fourth games of the second set to take a 3-1 lead.
Just when it seemed the momentum was shifting Jabeur's way, Vondrousova broke back the Tunisian in the fifth game. After recovering from a break down, Vondrousova broke Jabeur again in the ninth game for a 5-4 lead. In the 10th game, Vondrousova converted her second championship point on her serve to complete a two-set win.
“I don’t really know what’s happening right now. It’s an amazing feeling. I had a cast last year this time. This is amazing I can stand here. Tennis is crazy," Vondrousova said after winning Wimbledon.
