Serena Williams was honored with the Fashion Icon by the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), becoming the first athlete to receive the prestigious award. The US Open social media account shared some of Serena's most incredible outfits: "In honor of @serenawilliams receiving the @cfda Fashion Icon Award, we're taking a look back at some of Serena's most iconic on-court looks." Pegula shared one of the shots on her Instagram stories, with the simple words: "So iconic." Serena followed other fashion and style icons who received the Fashion Icon from the Council of Fashion Designers of America, such as Zendaya, Beyonce, Rihanna and Naomi Campbell.

In many ways for me, the tennis courts became my runway, and the U.S. Open was my personal New York Fashion Week "Rethinking the traditional tennis dress became a way to express my individuality, my confidence and, most importantly, my culture," said the North American icon.
