Indian doubles veteran Rohan Bopanna says that India's No. 1 ranked singles player Sumit Nagal needs to improve his serve and his transition game to the net in order to climb up the rankings on the ATP Tour. Nagal was beaten in the second round of the US Open earlier this week by the No.
2 seeded Dominic Thiem, of Austria, in straight sets. His first round win made Nagal the first Indian to win a match at a Grand Slam event in seven years.

According to the Indian sports website, Sportstar, Bopanna says, "The biggest key for Sumit will be to really work on his serve.
It will be a huge factor if he can improve on it. Instead of trying to catch up in every set, I would have loved to see him stay level, and then possibly use his forehand to dictate the points. A little more transition towards the net, when he sees the opportunity, and working on his serve will definitely help him play better against these top level athletes." Bopanna added that the experience of playing more matches like these will help the young Indian as he progresses in his career.
“I think, playing at this level a few more times, playing big matches like these and practising with these guys, Sumit will start understanding a lot better, in terms of how to sustain a good level of game for three to four hours." Meanwhile, 40 year old Bopanna is through to the quarter-finals of the US Open men's doubles event with Canadian partner Denis Shapovalov.
The Indo-Canadian pair upset the No. 6 seeds Kevin Krawietz and Andreas Mies 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 in a second round match on Saturday to move into the last eight. Bopanna and Shapovalov will now meet the Dutch Romanian team of Jean-Julien Rojer and Horia Tecau for a spot in the last four at New York.
Rojer and Tecau upset the No. 1 seeds and defending champions Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in their match. Bopanna is the last Indian left at the US Open this year after the exit of Nagal in the singles, and Divij Sharan and his partner Nikola Cacic were beaten in the first round of the doubles event by the No. 8 seeds Nikola Mektic and Wesley Koolhof.
