Germany's Maximilian Marterer has been granted a wildcard into next month's ATP Halle. The 22-year-old is now due to make his second consecutive appearance at the popular German grass-court tournament. Marterer failed to make it past the Halle qualifying in 2016 but managed to win two qualifying matches last year.
The German then put a solid display against tennis superstar Dominic Thiem in the Halle first round but still lost in straight sets. Marterer recently reached his maiden ATP semi-final in front of his home fans in Munich.
The 22-year-old then couldn't pull off big surprise and beat fellow compatriot Philip Kohlschreiber to reach the Munich final. Meanwhile, German Davis Cup Team doubles duo Tim Puetz and Jan-Lennard Struff have received a Halle men's doubles wildcard.
Puetz and Struff have had some great wins together for Germany in the Davis Cup. The pair beat Australia's Matt Ebden and John Peers in five sets in Brisbane in the doubles rubber of the Germany versus Australia World Group first round tie.
Puetz and Struff then edged 2016 French Open champions Feliciano Lopez and Marc Lopez in a thrilling five-setter in the doubles rubber of the Germany versus Spain quarter-final tie. Puetz and Struff recently teamed up together in Munich -- where they were defeated by doubles specialists Ivan Dodig and Rajeev Ram in the semi-final.
The Halle event is due to take place from 18-24 June. Also read: Tim Henman urges Andy Murray not to rush comeback
