Tomas Berdych, Maximilian Marterer receive wildcard for Stuttgart

Czech tennis ace Tomas Berdych has been awarded a wildcard into next week's ATP Stuttgart. The 32-year-old is due to make his seventh appearance in Stuttgart. The Czech debuted in Suttgart in 2004 -- when the tournament was held on a clay surface.

The Suttgart event made a transition from clay to grass in 2015. After eight years of absence, Berdcyh returned to Suttgart last year. In his first appearance in Suttgart since 2009, the Czech reached the quarter-final. Berdych's best run in Suttgart came in 2006 -- when he was defeated by Spain's David Ferrer in the semi-final.

Meanwhile, rising German star Maximilian Marterer has also received a Suttgart wildcard. The 22-year-old is set to make his third appearance in Stuttgart. Marterer will be eager to finally win a match in Suttgart as his previous two Suttgart campaigns came to an end in round one.

The German is coming off a French Open round-of-16 showing. Marterer had a solid campaign but couldn't produce a huge surprise and beat No. 1 seed Rafael Nadal to reach the quarter-final. Also read: Nick Kyrgios confirms that he will make singles comeback in Stuttgart
