Chris Evert praises Carlos Alcaraz's attitude

American tennis legend Chris Evert was impressed with the comeback win Carlos Alcaraz pulled off versus Albert Ramos-Vinolas as she thinks it's just a matter of time before the 19-year-old becomes a Grand Slam champion. Sixth-ranked Alcaraz was on the brink of a French Open defeat but he recovered to beat Ramos-Vinolas 6-1 6-7 (7) 5-7 7-6 (2) 6-4.

Ramos-Vinolas had a match point in the fourth set but Alcaraz saved and ultimately clinched a hard-fought five-set win. “What I loved about him is that he is so confident. He really believes in his path and he believes that it's just a matter of time before he wins not one, not two but many Grand Slams!

I don't think we have seen many teenage men have that attitude,” Evert told Eurosport.

Evert: Alcaraz showed maturity

In Barcelona, Alcaraz saved two consecutive match points in the semifinal versus Alex de Minaur.

The 19-year-old then proceeded to win his first Barcelona title. At Roland Garros, Alcaraz saved a match point versus Ramos-Vinolas and his hopes of winning his maiden Grand Slam title are still alive. “He showed tremendous maturity to pull off that match, that too against a veteran and another Spanish player.

This is the type of match that's only going to serve him well because now the pressure is off him a little bit and he can relax,” Evert added. Even though Evert was impressed by Alcaraz's comeback win, she noted that the 19-year-old can't allow himself to go 8-of-31 on break points.

“The only thing I will say critically [of Alcaraz] was the fact that he had so many break points [31] but only won eight of those. And I think that is uncharacteristic of someone like him who plays the big points very, very well,” Evert said.

Alcaraz plays Sebastian Korda in the French Open third round. Alcaraz has one loss on clay this season and it came against Korda in Monte Carlo.
