The Swiss Dominic Stephan Stricker was born in Münsingen on August 16, 2002. He currently occupies the 425th position in the ATP world rankings, his best ranking. Last year he defeated countryman Leandro Riedi to triumph at the Roland Garros juniors, where he also lifted the doubles trophy together with the Italian Flavio Cobolli.
Also in 2020 he reached the quarter-finals at the Australian Open in the same category, stopped by the future champion Harold Mayot in comeback in the third set. In January 2021 he trained in Dubai with the much more experienced countryman Roger Federer, champion of 20 Grand Slam races and former ATP number one.
Stricker remembers his experience with Federer
Speaking to the watson.ch website, Dominic talked about Roger Federer. He said: "Spending three weeks training with him made a big difference. He gave me a lot of advice and then, both before and after each training session, we chatted for a while.
He also invited me to take a trip to the desert with him. The truth is that Federer is the perfect example to follow, both on and off the court. Seeing how he behaves in every training session and the way he faces life is incredible." The Swiss also mentioned the inevitable comparison with Federer: "The comparisons don't put pressure on me, but they motivate me a lot." Stricker finally commented on his recent success at the Lugano Challenger last March, where he overtook the Ukrainian Vitaliy Sachko with a score of 6-4 6-2 in the last match: "The job well done is starting to give its fruits and in that week I felt a lot of self-confidence.
I still have to improve in everything, especially in the serve, which is the blow on which I invest more time and effort." Federer, who came back to the Doha event on the ATP Tour 2021 at the beginning of March, preferred to skip the next event in Dubai, where the Russian Aslan Karatsev won. The Swiss Maestro will play, with Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, the Mutua Madrid Open 2021.
